Waiting for the Kiwi stuff to dry. Tips? Stuck with a dirty cloth, some water, a pair of black boots that don't shine that much, and a Tribe Called Quest album.

No, I'm not trying the military lighter technique, thank you.

We're talking Timberland right? Unless polishing my Tim is a new euphemism...

Yes, Timberland boots.

"Polishing my Tim" would make a nice rap line.

Haha there's no shortage of Timberland references in rap but that would be a new one.

Anyway, I need a new pair for the street. I've been buying Brahmas for work just because they're cheap. I haven't had a new pair of Timberlands since high school.

Timberlands are, to me, one of the few brands that still have a very important aspect of quality in them, despite their popularity. I've had my specific pair since about 8th grade (in 11 now). They are old and crinkly, but a bit of cleaning usually do the trick.

Haven't heard of Brahmas. What are they like?

I'd rather save up for a skate shoe for the summer, in my case.

I shine my boots every day before work. The key is a good base. Several layers of Kiwi, brush in between. Once you have a nice shine from that take a COTTON rag, wrap it tightly around two fingers, get a little bit of Kiwi on the tip, spit on the rag and rub lightly in a circular direction. I can shine a pair to look like glass in about five minutes.

Thanks very much for the advice. Dad says they the Tim's weren't that shiny to begin with, so shining them won't do too much. True?

Whatever the case is, I'll buy some cotton rags for next time (I don't do it too often myself).

I still have the last pair I bought, probably in 12th grade so about 4 or 5 years ago at least, I still use occasionally as my backup work boots. They're pretty bald on the bottom and the soles are shot but they still work in a pinch.

Brahmas are $20-$60 Walmart boots. I usually buy the cheapest and get a few months out of them. I just got the midpriced pair and they're waterproof this time so they should hold up better than the last few pairs.

If they are a smooth leather you can make 'em shiny if you'd like. All my boots were just a dull black when I bought them.
